Written by former Nantucket Atheneum Director Molly Anderson and illustrated by island artist Susan Boardman, it is a chapter book for readers aged 8-12. Set during the Gold Rush, the tale follows Hannah, a Nantucket seagull, and her friend Silas, a San Francisco crow, as they embark on a mission: return to Nantucket to board the former whaleship Joy and explain that the whaling era is ending. Along the way, they are assisted by two humpback whales, Ceto and Mercury. Their adventure carries them from San Francisco to Maui, the Galápagos, Cape Horn, and Cape Verde, weaving history, imagination, and heart into one memorable voyage.
