This stunning replica Sperm Whale Tooth is part of the collection at the Peabody Essex Museum. The title of this tooth is called "Brigantine Chinchilla & Brigantine Tamaahmah". It is a replica of an Antique Tooth that was originally made by Artek for the Peabody Essex Museum. The scene is two sailing ships, one the Brig Chinchilla out of New York Commanded by Thomas Meek. The other is of the Brig Tamaahmaah out of New York Commanded by John Meek. The original was etched in 1825 by Edward Burdett. He is considered to be America's First Master Scrimshaw Artist. The reproduced tooth is currently made in our office in Fall River, MA. The finish is made to recreate the look of an antique tooth.
