Frederick Myrick is the most famous scrimshander of the 19th century. From 1826 to 1830, he was a member of the crew of the Nantucket whaler, "Susan", sailing to the far reaches of the earth. To occupy himself during the tedious hours at sea, between chores he created a series of scrimshaw teeth that have since become legendary. Part of the Nantucket Historical Association's collection these reproduction scrimshawed teeth are numbered, complete with named quarterboards and stands.
This reproduction scrimshaw whale tooth is handmade in New England of "eco ivory", a high-quality resin that mimics actual ivory. The intricate scrimshaw design and authentic coloration of the piece is a testament to the skill of the artisans who crafted this unique collectable work of art.
